Today is the day!!  The new ICD-10 codes that were released are now effective!!

Do not let your billing be delayed due to a coding glitch.  Remember that every episode that has an encounter date of 10/01/2021 and after will have to be reviewed for any new code updates.

The code that will probably create the most issues is the new code for depression unspecified, F32.A.  You will need to change any codes listed as F32.9 to this new code.

Remember the updated coding guidelines tell us to code to the highest level of specificity when supported by the medical record documentation.  You will also have the opportunity to use the new U09.9 for any late effects of COVID-19, or associated symptoms or conditions that develop following a previous COVID-19 infection.  You will need to assign a code(s) for the specific symptom(s) or condition(s) related to the previous COVID-19 infection, if known, first and then code U09.9, Post COVID-19 condition, unspecified. Trust your coding to the experts!  Reach out to MAC Legacy for a coding audit today!
