The FY2026 ICD-10 code update was released on June 9th and these additions/revisions will be effective on October 1st, 2026.

There are 487 new codes being added to the code set with this update and includes changes to each Tabular Chapter with the exception of Chapter 8: Disease of the ear and mastoid process and Chapter 22: Codes for special purposes.

There are 28 codes that are being deleted and 38 codes that are being revised as well.

Specifically, this update brings a new code for Type 2 diabetes mellitus that is in remission; 111 new codes for non-pressure chronic ulcers; updated codes related to multiple sclerosis, thyroid eye disease, and inflammatory malignant neoplasm of the breast.

Another spotlight is an update to the social determinants of health codes relating to financial insecurity.

The updated guidelines have not yet been released and of course we will not have the details about where these codes fall regarding payment under PDGM until the home health final rule is released.
